🔹 Build a Digital Mine and Win One Million Tenge! The “Digital Mine on OpenEgiz” competition

📍 Online · 📅 submissions until 25 October 2026 · final on 31 October 2026

DigitalEgiz Laboratory of the Faculty of Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University announces the open competition “Digital Mine on OpenEgiz” with a grand prize of 1,000,000 tenge.

Participants are invited to develop a digital twin of a mining enterprise using the open OpenEgiz platform. The competition aims to promote the practical application of modern digital technologies for modeling production processes, analyzing data, and predicting the performance of industrial facilities.

⛏️ The task

Create a digital model of a mine or its individual facilities, such as an open-pit mine, an underground mine, or a mineral processing plant. Participants are free to determine the functional modules of their projects. They may simulate equipment operations, transportation processes, ventilation systems, and other production systems, as well as implement “what-if” scenarios to assess the potential consequences of changes in enterprise operations.

👥 Who can take part

The competition is open to everyone. Participants may compete individually or form teams of up to four members. Any development tools, including artificial intelligence technologies, may be used. Submissions are accepted in Kazakh, Russian, and English.

🤖 AI jury

Projects are evaluated by a jury composed of artificial intelligence models. The AI judges assess submissions against predefined criteria:

  • completeness of the digital mine model;
  • accuracy of production process simulations;
  • quality of visualization;
  • implementation of “what-if” scenarios;
  • functionality of project modules;
  • project presentation.

The maximum possible score is 100 points.

🏆 Final and prizes

Following the preliminary selection stage, the ten highest-scoring projects will advance to the final, which will be broadcast live on YouTube. The winner will receive 1,000,000 tenge. Teams finishing in second and third place will be awarded certificates of achievement and offered an internship or employment opportunity at DigitalEgiz Laboratory.
